Simulations & Calculators

Active learning strategies like
simulations and calculators, give
students hands-on, interactive
experiences that allow them to
engage with material directly and
give them practical examples of
the course content in action in the
real world.

Interactive flashcards reinforce lesson material through
active recall, giving students an additional mode of learning,
and thereby strengthening neural connections. .

Drs. Brown and Sikorskii wanted to
identify knowledge gaps prior to class,
so they could reinforce key concepts in
person. With guidance from Great
River Learning's Project Development
Coordinators, they chose to incorporate
reading checkpoints within the material.
These give students a chance to test
their knowledge. Detailed answers
are given after students respond.
